Modix Big-60 V3 Features
The Modix V3 has a build volume of 600 x 600 x 660 mm. This is 10% more than the V2 offers.
Improved Design
The printer stays true to its original black with red trimmings design. The unit comes in a sturdy chassis and its frame is made of 40 x 40mm T-slot aluminum profiles together with aluminum brackets and joints
The printer also has Hiwin MGW motion rails for the axes. These rails provide wider rail and carriage that the MGN rails used on the previous Modix Big-60 printer. What this means is that the Big-60 V3 axes are more accurate and operate more smoothly.
There are also four ball-screws on the Z-axis. Each of the screws has a precision lead screw that enables them to move the print bed at 0.5-micron layer height.
The cables have also gotten an upgrade. For example, the printer is equipped with professional IGUS signal cables and the print head wiring and drag chain now rest on the Y-axis.
The Big-60 V3 enclosure comprises of 3mm aluminum composite panels (ACP) and the doors are made of polycarbonate sheets. These materials ensure the printer is relatively quiet and chamber temperatures are even during the printing process.
The top lid has been redesigned to allow easy access to the print bed and you can also drill the aluminum casing to add custom fixtures or addons.
New Extruder
The Modix V3 has a V6 Volcano hotend and an E3D Aero direct extruder. The print head has been redesigned to be compatible with the E3D Aero. Now, it is much larger but has a shorter heat sink as well as a 40 mm fan. This improvement helps to address the issues of potential clogging.
The Modix Big-60 V3 has a single extruder. However, you can upgrade it with a dual print head for multi-material printing.
The hotend has interchangeable nozzles. You can switch the default 1.75mm nozzle to the 3mm one. The thermistor an also be changed from the default one that reaches 285°C to one reaching 500°C. At this high temperature, the machine will be able to print industrial-grade materials.
The E3D Volcano hotend and the Titan Aero extruder enable the Modix Big-60 V3 to process a wide range of materials, including PLA, ABS, PVA, PC, ASA, PETG, TPU, Nylon, carbon composites, and other exotic materials.
The printer is compatible with a wide range of nozzle diameters, including 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1.2mm options. Therefore, you can print nearly any type of third-party filament.
Dual Heat Zones
The Modix Big-60 V3 print bed is made of Mic6 aluminum plate and can heat up to 120°C. Like the V2, the V3 3D printer offers automatic bed leveling that uses 100 probing joints. Another new feature of this machine is the dual heating zone. For small jobs, you can use the inner zone which measures 200 x 200 x 200 mm.
The print surface is made of PEI. Therefore, you can be sure the 3D models will stick well and removing them after the printing won’t be a problem.
Touchscreen Interface
The Modix Big-60 V3 has a 32-but electronics boards with features such as print resume and print pause. This unit has a large 7-inch touchscreen that shows the progress of your print job in real-time.
Other features of the printer include Wi-Fi connectivity, which means you can operate it remotely through a PC or phone.
Easy Assembly
Assembling the Modix Big-60 V3 is not difficult. The assembly kit has been redesigned and mostly consists of small metal brackets, symmetrical parts, and the print head.
In case you get stuck during the assembly process, you can refer to the included User Guide or watch the over 80 setup and assembly videos provided by the company.
Other Features
Additional features of the Modix Big-60 include:
- Optional onboard camera
- Trinamic TMC2660 drivers that are quieter and more durable
- Filament runout sensor
- Opensource RepRap firmware
- Draft mode, which prints at 100mm/s instead of the standard 60 mm/s
