eSun 4D Filament Review

With the development of 3D printing technology, it became necessary to develop new, more functional and perfect materials for 3D printers. The very concept of 4D materials has been known for a long time and has been exciting the minds of scientists for many years. Under “4D” is meant, not some imaginary dimension, but the ability of a material to interact with external factors, changing shape, color and even properties. Of the most well-known to a wide circle, 4D materials include “shape memory” foam used for the manufacture of mattresses and pillows. But in fact, the scope of application of materials that can change under the influence of physical and mechanical factors is much wider.

Realizing the limitless potential of 4D materials, Esun launched the e4D-1 plastic . The “4D” property of the filament is the ability to memorize a temporary shape and return to its original state under the influence of temperature.

How it works?

After a few minutes in water heated to 45-90 ℃, the model printed from e4D-1 plastic becomes plastic and can be reshaped . And after cooling down at room temperature, the material hardens, keeping the changes.

To return the model to its original shape, you need to immerse it in warm water again for a couple of minutes.

These material properties provide new possibilities for engineering design and prototyping using 3D printing. Esun e4D-1 is widely used to create structures requiring thermal shrinkage, bandages, bionic prototypes, motion graphics, etc.

One of the advantages of Esun e4D-1 material is that it is compatible with home 3D printers. Plastic is produced in standard spools with a filament diameter of 1.75 mm, and any 3D printer with an extruder heating up to 200-210 ℃ and a heated platform is suitable for printing.

Thus, Esun has made innovative engineering material more accessible to a wide range of users. Providing opportunities to create new, more unique designs and inventions.
