Wanhao Duplicator 10 Review

We present to you an overview of the novelty of Wanhao – the Duplicator 10 3D printer, which changes the idea of the brand and characterizes the company’s transition to a new level, at least in design, which has received very little attention before. We can say that this is the nicest 3D printer on the market.

A few words about printing technology

So, FDM is a method of layer-by-layer fusing of plastic from a “rod” or plastic filament wound on a spool (one of the main elements of this type of 3D printers, an analogue of the print head of a matrix printer), melted by an extruder. This printing method is considered one of the simplest methods of additive technologies (The term “additive” is English from the word “additive”, meaning “additive” or “by adding”.). Due to the simplicity of this printing method, it is the most budgetary and popular, so if the reader wants to delve into the specifics of the technology in more detail, then finding information will not be difficult.

Packaging and equipment

The device is delivered carefully packed in a cardboard box for easy transportation.

The package bundle is represented by a fairly large set of accessories for this fairly simple and budget model:

  • Set of tools
  • USB cable for computer connection
  • Power cable with adapter
  • Reel PLA – plastic weighing 0.25 kg
  • Teflon tube
  • Extruder cleaner
  • SD card for 8 GB.

Design features and appearance

As mentioned above, the appearance of the device is laconic, made in a stylish plastic case, reminiscent of an interior item or a household appliance more than as often happens in the field of 3D printing, albeit not a large, but an industrial machine.

Front view:

  • 1. Teflon tube
  • 2. Extruder assembly
  • 3. Platform for printing
  • 4. Touch screen
  • 5. Fixing bolts
  • 6. SD card slot
  • 7. Rubberized feet

Back view:

  • 8. Plastic feeder
  • 9. Cooling fan
  • 10. Power switch
  • 11. Power cord connector
  • 12. USB interface

The printer for its size is equipped with a sufficiently large touch screen, which is a very convenient and intuitive control tool, which also displays information about print time, extruder temperature, percent of model availability during printing. This is a definite plus of the printer. It is also worth noting that all moving structural elements, as well as the nozzle, are reliably protected by a plastic housing, which reduces the risk of burns or accidental injuries. It is immediately clear that the developers made the printer for children’s use as well.

Touchscreen appearance:

Control interface:

However, I would like to note some, albeit insignificant, but disadvantages of the device. The first thing that catches your eye is the absence of a power button on the front panel, you have to turn it on and off “by power supply”, which requires relatively free access to the rear panel. Another disadvantage is the lack of a holder for a material spool. The set comes with a 250 grams PLA coil in a cardboard box, which can be used as a stand, but the question arises of the material spools interchangeability, durability and convenience of such a solution. Users who plan to use the printer intensively will sooner or later have to purchase a holder device, or, alternatively, they can print it on the same 3D printer or build it from scrap materials.

The platform is not equipped with heating, the device works only with PLA plastic, which somewhat reduces the functionality and application.

Wanhao offers standard Cura software as software for the D10.

The program allows you to edit the STL model, as well as save it to an SD card as a print job, or transfer it directly from a PC to a printer via a connection via the supplied USB cable.

Calibration

The moving and printing units must be calibrated before starting printing. The device is calibrated using a sheet of paper and screws, like most budget models.

After calibrating and loading the print job, we start printing through the control interface displayed on the touch screen.

The following information is displayed in the on-screen menu:

It should be noted that the printer in its price and technological category gives very good printing results . For the test prints we used ESUN PLA.

Test samples:

identical plastic models in different colors.

The test results were a pleasant surprise for us. Little hopes were pinned on baby D10, but in fact he showed himself to be in the top five. The quality of the printed models is on par with other higher-end Wanhao printers.

The printer is easy to set up and operate, and comes with functional yet simple and easy-to-understand software.

Has a very attractive price for its functionality, more attractive than its counterparts

The model can be recommended both for children and adolescents as a creative toy and modern entertainment, and for adults who want to master the fascinating world of 3D printing and modeling. However, the device cannot be called a hundred percent amateur; it can be used for prototyping souvenirs, simple (for example, case) engineering products, creating models, etc.
