FlashForge Adventurer 3 3D Printer Review

Hello everyone.
Today we will tell you about a novelty from Flashforge – Adventurer 3.

FLASHFORGE is a Chinese company Zhejiang Flashforge 3D Technology Co., Ltd., established in 2011 and today is one of the largest manufacturers of 3D printers in the world. The brand’s printers are renowned for their reliability and excellent value for money.

Appearance

I would like to note right away that this budget model contains all possible functions that are often not available even in much more expensive models, in our opinion this is the first attempt to make an affordable printer with the maximum set of options. The Adventurer 3 turned out to be a very small and compact closed-body printer. On 3 sides the body is transparent, which makes it easy to observe the printing process.

On the right side there is a cover that opens the recess for the plastic spool.

Not every coil will fit. Our kilogram ESUNs didn’t fit. But without too much trouble, you can place the spool next to the printer.

Equipment

The complete set of the printer does not differ in abundance, only everything you need:

  • Screwdriver;
  • Grease sachet;
  • Extruder cleaning rod;
  • Plastic coil 300 gr;
  • Power cable;
  • A small instruction for the first launch.

Constructive

The printer is controlled using a small touchscreen display.

The sensor is very responsive. The printer does not support Russian, but all items are provided with clear icons, so that even a beginner will not get confused in the menu.

Printer kinematics is a miniature copy of the famous Prusha. There are 2 small trapezoidal screws on the Z-axis.

Heated table with a special sticker for better adhesion when printing. The platform is removable, which makes it easier to remove the finished models.

The extruder is very compact, non-separable and quick-detachable. It is enough to clamp 2 clips on the sides, and it can be easily removed, it is not even necessary to unload the plastic.

The nozzle is hidden in a plastic cover. On the one hand, this makes the extruder non-separable, on the other hand, thanks to such a casing, it is impossible to burn yourself against the extruder.

Below, next to the nozzle on the extruder, there are 2 small LEDs to illuminate the model during printing. The resulting light is more than enough to view the printing process.

To facilitate the extruder, a bowden plastic feeding system is used. On the side of the body there is a motor with a filament sensor. If the plastic runs out, the printer will automatically pause printing and will not run idle.

Despite the outer minimalism, many interesting and useful “chips” were added to the printer, such as Wi-Fi, the ability to print from the cloud and a small camera inside.

The familiar FlashPrint with ready-made profiles for the printer is used as software.

The ready-made profiles provide all the necessary settings, but if you need additional, finer settings, you can turn on Expert Mode.

The slicer retains such convenient functions as the ability to edit supports, the ability to “cut” a large model and convert pictures into volumetric bas-reliefs.

Preparing to print

Calibration is very simple. We go to the calibration menu and the printer, after determining the zeros, lowers the extruder into the table.

Using the arrows, you need to lower or raise the extruder so that it slightly touches the table, and click OK. Calibration completed.

The plane of the printing table is not adjustable, that is, it will not work to make it perfectly flat, and a very small convex lick forms in the center. But this unevenness is easily compensated by the raft stamp under the model.

Next, load the plastic. Our large spool didn’t fit into the printer, so we had to come up with a mount. They built just such a wooden stand)

The printer is ready to print.

A huge plus that the 3D printer has a wireless connection: files can be sent via Wi-Fi, downloaded from the Flashforge cloud, or using a regular USB flash drive.

Printing

First, we launched a test print of small models – these are such toothy piranha clothespins:

PLA ESUN, layer 0.18, printing time for 2 fish is about 30 – 40 minutes.

Then they made a bigger model – a flower pot in the form of a rocket.

Layer 0.18, printing time 8 hours.

The printer does not “strip” along the Z-axis – the layers are laid flat and neatly. But because of the bowden feed, the model turns out to be “hairy” in places, which can be quickly and easily removed with an ordinary knife or cutter. It can also be corrected using the retract settings in Expert Mode.

Outcome

Flashforge Adventurer 3 pleased with its design and nice little things. Thanks to the LEDs on the extruder and the transparent sides, the printer has an excellent overview of the printing process. Even if you are in a different place, you will be able to observe how your model is printed on the video camera. Printer setup does not require any special skills, and the proprietary FlashPrint software provides a wide range of settings.

This printer, of course, is unlikely to be suitable for a seasoned 3D printer or for small production. It will look much more appropriate in a children’s room or in a school office. Small, as simple and safe to use as possible, but nevertheless reliable and with the necessary set of functions.

Flashforge Adventurer 3 will be a great gift for a child or novice 3D printer.
